After the sun dried the wet charcoal on the canvas, I could immediately 'see' water cascading down a rocky slope. The trick was going to be developing what I had pictured in my mind. After permanently fixing the charcoal (so as not to smear and smudge it), many hours went into this painting using negative painting techniques to create the water, rocks, trees, bushes and grassy areas. The process ends with the application of acrylic paints to give definition and depth.
I accidentally left this painting, and two others (in a Curry’s art bag) outside the VAGA Gallery, Monday evening, August 19th, 2019. Someone may have thought the bag and contents were being discarded. I am devastated at their disappearance and am offering a reward of $100 each for their safe return. No questions asked.
